Y10 Harriet is National Water Polo Champion

14 July 2021

Harriet Dickens, a Y10 pupil at Bolton School Girls’ Division, featured in the City of Manchester’s senior women’s water polo team as they became inaugural British Champions over the weekend. The competition took place at Sandford Parks Lido in Cheltenham. The Manchester team overcame Sheffield (10-4) and Hucknall (7-2) on the Saturday and met old rivals Liverpool in Sunday’s final. Going into the final quarter, the match was evenly poised at 8-8 but Manchester ran out the eventual winners 10-8. Y9 pupil Lucy Blenkinship also played up in the competition, helping Tyldesley secure a fifth place finish.

Manchester’s men’s team, which included Bolton School Junior Boys’ teacher Mr Winstanley, won the bronze medal in their tournament.

Earlier this summer, Harriet picked up a Wallwork Trophy from the Girls’ Division in recognition of her outstanding commitment to a broad range of sports throughout KS3. She is still very much in contention for a place in the GB U17 squad for the European Championships, taking place this summer.
