Pupils and teachers from Scotland’s oldest girls’ school, St Margaret’s School for Girls, in Aberdeen, are today celebrating the achievements of their pupils following an unprecedented academic year.
With the SQA examination diet cancelled for the second year running and an Alternative Certification Model put in place by the SQA, this has been an extraordinary year of challenges. Despite this, St Margaret’s pupils have continued to achieve an impressive 97% pass rate (A-C) at National 5 with 91% awarded at A or B; a 100% (A-C) pass rate at Higher with 94% awarded at A or B level and a 99% pass rate at Advanced Higher with 92% awarded at A or B level.
Miss Anna Tomlinson, Head Teacher at St Margaret’s School for Girls, said:
“We are exceptionally proud of our senior pupils’ achievements following a very challenging year. Our girls have risen to the challenges and their results are testament to their commitment and hard work and, of course, to the dedication and skill of our teaching staff who have navigated the Alternative Certification Model with great professionalism and commitment to the needs of pupils.
“Our sixth year students’ outstanding achievements at Higher level last summer meant that many of them were holding enviable university offers and together with their performance at Advanced Higher this year, have secured their places. When the country went into lockdown in January our pupils continued to work tirelessly and with such dedication.
“We are delighted that so many students are taking up places on high tariff courses to read subjects as diverse as music, medicine, veterinary medicine, law, engineering and computing science to name but a few.”
This year marks a special time for the oldest all girls’ School in the country, which has been celebrating its 175th Anniversary.
