Cheltenham Ladies’ College’s Class of 2021 secure top university places

16 September 2021

Cheltenham Ladies’ College is delighted to congratulate the leaving cohort of 2021 on their A Level results. Along with their peers nationally, their final two years at school were profoundly altered by the Covid-19 pandemic, entailing full and partial national lockdowns, the enforced closure of school campuses for extended periods of time and the continuation of teaching and assessment maintained through a variety of forms – in person, hybrid and digital.

The 2021 cohort has achieved 95.3% A*-B, with 31% of pupils gaining 3 or more A* grades.

These results have secured them places at a variety of global universities and institutions to study a broad range of subjects. These include Physics with Astrophysics at Bath; Economics, History & Politics, Law, Medicine and Natural Sciences at Cambridge; Modern Languages & Cultures at Durham; Classics and Sport & Recreational Management at Edinburgh; Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Imperial; PPE at LSE; Fine Art at Oxford and Medicine and Veterinary Medicine at UCL. International offers met include Berkeley, Brown, University of Chicago and Yale in USA, Hong Kong University, Bocconi in Italy and the University of Auckland.

Principal Eve Jardine-Young praised pupils for their resilience and support for each other, and the strong sense of community that has flourished despite periods of enforced separation. She commended parents, teachers, house and support staff for the patience, agility, dedication and perseverance they have shown throughout this extended period of extraordinary challenges, and extended her best wishes for all that is to follow in the coming months.

College’s consistently excellent GCSE, A Level and International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme results represent a compelling testimony to the achievements of CLC pupils. However, academic excellence at College concerns much more than exam grades. Each girl is given the opportunity to fulfil her potential in an inspiring, happy, supportive and caring environment. CLC’s ethos is to educate the whole person and also celebrate their achievements on a personal level and through co-curricular pursuits, providing pupils with the skills and confidence to have a positive influence in the world.
