Marist Students Attend Swimming Masterclass with Olympic Champion Adam Peaty

2 November 2021

Two students from The Marist School, Sunninghill, enjoyed the opportunity of a lifetime as they participated in a swimming masterclass event with Triple Olympic Champion, Adam Peaty. The event took place at Hydrolife, the UK’s largest Jacuzzi retailer, based at Longacres Garden Centre in Bagshot, Surrey.

Marist swimmers Lillianna (Year 6) and Heidi (Year 8) were invited to spend the morning with Adam Peaty alongside students from other local schools. The girls took part in a Q&A session with Adam, where they had the opportunity to ask about his swimming superstitions, training programmes, and of course, how he’s getting on with his training for this year’s BBC Strictly Come Dancing competition!

Following his success at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, Adam then led one-on-one breaststroke training sessions with Lillianna and Heidi where he shared intricate coaching tips and demonstrations.

Speaking about her experience, Year 6 pupil Lillianna said,

“My experience during the morning with Adam Peaty was amazing. It inspired me to work harder in improving my technique and strengthened my love for swimming. I felt extremely lucky to represent The Marist and to be chosen to attend.”

Year 8 student Heidi added,

“It’s not every day at school that you get to meet your hero! I thoroughly enjoyed the swimming lesson that I had with Adam Peaty, it was inspiring and the tips that he provided I hope to use to help me in my aim to achieve a national swimming time.”

Following the event, Mrs Jen Bishopp, Director of Sport at The Marist School said,

“Swimming forms one of our main sports offered here at The Marist and we have a strong history of sporting success both at county level and nationally, so we were delighted to be invited to such a special event. A huge thank you to Marist Alumni parent, Mr Marlow, and his team at Hydrolife for giving our students such an incredible opportunity and memories that will last a lifetime.”
