As part of The Queen’s Green Canopy Malvern St James Girls’ School are planting 40 trees and hedges across the estate.
Pupils in Year 5 kick-started the planting in the Prep Garden with Mrs Raraty, Headmistress, and Mrs Aris, Prep Teacher, where they planted a number of Crab Apples and Wild Cherry trees. Once the trees are established, and bearing fruit, pupils will be able to pick the fruit and use it in their lessons.
Mrs Aris said, “We have been delighted to take part in planting a tree for The Queen’s Green Canopy. At MSJ we understand the importance of trees and their impact on our environment. We are also linking our planting strategy to the Prime Ministers pledge at the recent COP26. Offering us many cross-curricular opportunities and teaching the importance of climate change on our world.”
The Queen’s Green Canopy is a unique tree-planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”. The Queen’s Green Canopy will create a network of individual trees, avenues, copses and whole woodlands in honour of The Queen’s service and the legacy she has built.
