Two teams of budding scientists at Monmouth Prep School have soared into the finals of a national competition.
Teams captained by Amalia Richardson and James Arrand achieved superb results in their Year 6 online QuizClub UK National Inter-School Science Quiz.
Amalia’s team, which included Zac Mason, Llewi Evans and Maddie Powell, finished second out of 86 teams, with 1,820 points – just 10 points behind the winner of their semi-final heat.
The team captained by James, which included Sam Johnson and Joseph Longcake, finished fourth with an impressive haul of 1,760 points.
The pupils’ outstanding attitude and knowledge delighted their mentor and Science teacher, Dr Sion Wall.
Dr Wall said: “I’m so incredibly thrilled for both of our science teams to get through to the UK national final.
“These young scientists continue to amaze me with their science knowledge, especially considering the level of questions.
“It was exciting and nail-biting watching them as they clawed their way up the leaderboard from round to round.
“Every single one of them contributed to their team and I’m so very proud of them all.”
