Northampton High School students amaze audience with ‘Play in a Week’ production

15 February 2022

Students at a Northamptonshire school have wowed an eager audience of parents, staff and friends with their recent performance of ‘Treachery at Traitors’ Quay’ – a production prepared and performed all in one week!

Year 5 and 6 pupils at Northampton High School participate in the ‘Play in a Week’ enrichment project every year, crafting a production that develops confidence, deeper thinking and teamwork. In the short space of a week (or 5 school days), students are tasked with learning a script, rehearsing their parts, learning songs and choreographed dances, sourcing costumes, as well as helping with prop production; all leading to a marquee performance in front of friends and family at the week’s close.

This year, the chosen play was World War II espionage musical ‘Treachery at Traitors’ Quay’, which follows characters Duggie, Billy and Rosie, who are determined to uncover the truth behind the mysterious spy in their midst. After a week of fun-filled preparation, the pupils rallied together for a near perfect performance on Wednesday 9 February, which left parents in awe of what their children had achieved in such a short space of time. Year 6 teacher Mrs Karen Fordham commented “Treachery at Traitors’ Quay’ was a huge success. The girls mesmerised the audience with their enthusiasm and energy, as well as their talented performance skills that included convincing acting, melodic singing and energetic dancing. We are so proud of their excellent team work, problem solving skills and hard work ethic. They are all shining stars with such bright futures!”

Congratulations to all pupils in Years 5 and 6 on a fantastic ‘Play in a Week’, the memories of which will stay with them forever. To read more about Northampton High School, please visit Bookings are now being taken for the school’s upcoming Open Morning on Friday 4 March.
