23 February 2022

A popular annual talent show involving secondary school children in Monmouth is taking place on Thursday, 3rd March from 7pm.

Loosely based upon the format of a more well-known talent show, Monmouth’s Got Talent (MGT) is a special celebration of music, dance and theatre.

The best acts from Monmouth School for Boys, Monmouth School for Girls and Monmouth Comprehensive School will be battling it out for the top prizes.

The evening, at The Blake Theatre, is being organised by the senior prefects at the three schools.

It will raise money for two local mental health charities – Mindstep Foundation and The Ted Senior Foundation.

Director of Music at Monmouth School for Boys, David Lawson, will be among the panel of judges.

The Blake Theatre last hosted MGT in March 2020 and saw a music and dance act from Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools, The Shadow, win the top prize.

The Shadow, which comprised of singers, dancers, a pianist and a cellist, wowed the judges, while magician Joe Mudd, from Monmouth Comprehensive School, was the runner-up, and Rohi Tsvara, from Monmouth School for Boys, finished third.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, MGT took place virtually in 2021 and was won by Will, a vocalist at Monmouth Comprehensive School, who shone with his a cappella combination of Billy Joel’s The Longest Time.

Reuben Wilson (Monmouth School for Boys) and Issy Taylor (Monmouth School for Girls) took the runners-up prizes 12 months ago. Reuben dazzled with the drums and Issy sparkled in equal measures with her vocal performance of Naughty from the musical, Matilda!

FOMS (Friends of Monmouth School for Boys) is running a contactless payment refreshments bar, while a raffle will take place during the interval with all proceeds going to Mindstep Foundation and The Ted Senior Foundation.
