Withington Girls’ School Year 13 pupil, Charlie Bell, was selected by England Lacrosse to represent England at home and abroad on the Under 19 team.
Playing at the Home Internationals that took place from Friday 8th to Sunday 10th April, Charlie and her team had great success as they became Home Internationals Junior Champions. Charlie will again put on her England shirt to tour Prague in August alongside 29 athletes from across the country.
Charlie, who is a member of our Head Girl Team, joined Withington in Year 7 and has progressed through school as a keen sportswoman taking part in three team sports – netball, lacrosse and hockey – and captaining the lacrosse team. Charlie’s interest in the sport began at primary school where she played pop lacrosse and won the pop lacrosse national finals. She has shown further proficiency in her field, having studied A Level PE a year early, achieving an A*.
Charlie first started on the England Lacrosse pathway at the age of 15 and has trained regularly with the academy since then and it is her performance at these national academy training sessions that this selection is based upon. Charlie hopes to continue playing lacrosse at university and progress further on the England Lacrosse pathway.
Charlie follows in the footsteps of WGS alumna Miranda Bate, also a former member of the Head Girl Team, who too has progressed through the England Lacrosse pathway and is on the Under 23 squad. Miranda took up a lacrosse scholarship at William and Mary University, Virginia in September 2021.
On her selection, Charlie commented: “I feel super proud to be representing my country, and happy that my hard work has paid off. I’m really excited for the opportunity.”
Mrs Roberts, WGS Lacrosse Coach, said: “Charlie is extremely committed to her lacrosse, both for the school team and out of school at club, county and National level. Her selection for this England squad rewards both her talent and dedication and we are incredibly proud of her.”
