Derby High School Celebrates A Level Results

18 August 2022

There were lots of happy faces at Derby High School today as students’ hard work paid off with an outstanding set of A-level results. With an incredible 78% of grades awarded between A* and B and more than 50% at A* or A, the vast majority of students have secured their first-choice degree courses. Following a difficult two years, students were delighted to be rewarded for their efforts and motivation throughout the huge challenges to educational provision imposed by the pandemic. Derby High School teaching and support staff deserve to be praised for their commitment and ability to transfer learning to live online lessons whenever required, with supportive and constructive feedback individually provided.

High grades have secured students places on a diverse range of highly competitive courses, with the majority at Russell Group universities including Oxbridge, ranging from medicine, law, architecture, languages, engineering, maths, chemistry and psychology.

Amy Chapman, Head of Derby High, commented: “I am delighted with the success of this year’s cohort of students who have achieved outstanding results under very challenging circumstances. At Derby High we teach in an environment that values curiosity, creativity, personal initiative and debate and which encourages students to focus on individual strengths, and we have risen to the challenge of maintaining this approach throughout the period of the pandemic. Not only have our A level subject results been excellent, we have also supported students to excel in the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) where 80% of entries gained A*-A grades, enabling our students to showcase their ability to research a topic of their choice, a skill much valued by universities. The Class of 2022 are a truly inspiring and phenomenal group of young people. Their dedication and resilience will be invaluable in their future careers and we wish them every bit of health, happiness and success as they move on from Derby High.”
