Author talk organised by Royal High School Bath student in support of AghanAid

27 September 2022

Royal High School Bath is hosting a very special talk with acclaimed historian and Sunday Times bestselling author, Saul David, on Wednesday 5 October, 7-8pm – with all proceeds going towards AfghanAid.

The event is the result of one of the students’ own initiative and commitment to supporting Afghan Aid, a British humanitarian and development organisation which works with millions of deprived and excluded families in some of the poorest and most remote communities in Afghanistan. Any tickets purchased or donations made before 30 September will be match funded and therefore automatically doubled by AghanAid.

The talk itself is not to be missed; it is a rare opportunity to find out more from the author Saul David himself about his new book, the first authorised history about Britain’s SBS – or Special Boat Service – in the Second World War. Written with the full cooperation of the modern SBS – the first time this ultra-secretive unit has given its seal of approval to any book – and exclusive access to its archives, SBS: Silent Warriors allows Britain’s original special forces to emerge from the shadows and take their proper and deserved place in our island story.

Not only is SBS: Silent Warriors a Sunday Times Top 10 Bestseller it has been received many positive reviews including James Holland in The Daily Telegraph who wrote “A terrific bookwritten with all the gusto, thrills and head excitement these SBS operations richly deserve. It really is one of the most enjoyable histories I’ve read in many a year.”

Commenting on his forthcoming talk at Royal High School Bath, Saul David said: “It seems fitting that my talk about the SBS, a unit that fought bravely in Afghanistan for many years, will help to raise funds for the charity AfghanAid which is doing such wonderful work in that impoverished country, and which already has close links with the Royal High School.”

Royal High School Bath is a leading independent day and boarding school. Part of the GDST family, RHSB provides outstanding, contemporary education for girls aged 3-18. With over 150 years of educating young women, the Royal High is an innovative, high-achieving school that provides a wonderful environment for girls to excel.

It is equally well-known for its friendliness and inclusivity, as well as for its active role in the local community and social responsibility. The students themselves regularly take the lead in organising events and initiatives to raise greater awareness of and to support a variety of charities and organisations. This particular talk is entirely student driven and organised by the Year 12 student herself due to her tenacity, hard work and commitment to raising funds for Afghan Aid.

Tickets (£10-£25) are now available from Eventbrite with all proceeds from the talk (including sales of the book) going to Afghan Aid: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/afghanaid-author-visit-tickets-406218599767
