BGS Alumnae Sporting Success

9 February 2023

Bedford Girls’ School sporting alumnae are continuing to thrive on the international sporting stage.

The School has boasted students in elite competition including representation at the Tokyo Olympics, with some going a step further and grabbing medal-winning headlines at the Commonwealth Games. We are now pleased to be adding more cricket and hockey successes to our honours.

Northamptonshire cricketer, Florence Miller, has signed her first professional contract with Sunrisers Cricket Team. The talented batter has regularly featured in the Academy side and was ever-present in the recent Charlotte Edwards Cup competition.

Florence reflected on signing her first professional contract: “Being offered my first professional contract is so exciting, and I can’t wait to get going this season! It’s also great to start my career with Jodi alongside me, since we’ve been playing together at Northants for years now, so to begin this journey together is special.”

After completing her A Levels in 2022, Florence secured a place at Loughborough University and is currently studying Management with a placement year.

BGS 2021 alumna, Maddie Axford, has been selected for the 2023 GB Women’s Elite Development Programme (EDP) squad. Maddie will be joined by high-potential U18 and U21 English players, who will continue to develop their tournament hockey skills and look to secure a place in the team for the next women’s Junior World Cup in Chile in December. In April 2022, Maddie and her England Hockey U21 team claimed a historic bronze at the Junior Women’s World Cup in Potchefstroom, South Africa.

Maddie is currently studying International Media and Communications at the University of Nottingham, where she also represents the university in the BUCS British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS).
