14 March 2023

Downe House welcomed renowned British Academy (BAFTA) award and Emmy award-winning filmmaker and immersive storyteller, Anthony Geffen, to the school for the latest in a series of Junior Medley Lectures. The School was delighted that members of the local Cold Ash Scouts group joined pupils in years 7, 8 & 9 at the school for the evening.

The audience was enthralled by Anthony’s incredible adventures, from working with David Attenborough and Stephen Hawking to her late Majesty the Queen, from climbing to the summit of Everest to diving to one of the deepest points in the ocean. His experience as a director and film producer is truly inspiring and ignited an excitement amongst the young audience.

“I found Anthony very inspiring, and really appreciated his message to the children to seek their own potential and never give up, even if things don’t go to plan, because that is how they’ll achieve great things.” – Mr Ash Williams – Scout Leader

Anthony also explained some of the exciting advancements in technology, including VR, AR and AI storytelling, and its impact on the filmmaking process. What struck the audience most was the passion and dedication that is required to make an insightful film or documentary.

“The lecture was really interesting – it helped me understand how documentaries are made and how technology has changed how we watch videos. It’s amazing how much work and love goes in to filming – but it’s important because the world of film is doing so much to educate people worldwide. It’s just incredible!” – Cold Ash Scout
