Royal High School Bath is delighted to team up with Bath Rugby and Bath Rugby Foundation as part of the Club’s Schools Partnership Programme.
Once a week, Year 5 and Year 6 pupils at Royal High Prep School have been enjoying Tag Rugby coaching sessions with a Bath rugby coach Alex Cheng Level 2 RFU coach. They spend one hour each week learning and developing their rugby skills as part of a series of tailored programmes. They have especially enjoyed the team sessions and will get the opportunity to participate in a special Rugby coaching afternoon later in the year. Alongside their sessions Year 6 pupils have been invited to watch a Bath Rugby Match and get the opportunity to parade around the pitch at half time.
This has been a wonderful opportunity at introducing the pupils to, for many of whom is, a new sport, as well as helping the pupils ranging in age from 9 to 11 years to develop their skills as they have progressed over the weeks.
Jess Lewis, Head of Prep Sport at Royal High School, said “Our sessions with Bath Rugby have been fantastic for the girls. They are really fun and interactive and have really helped increase the girls’ knowledge of game, as well as introduced them to the more technical and tactical aspects of Rugby”.
“The best part is how the coach has really inspired all the children to get involved ensuring that every pupil makes a contribution. Here at the Royal High School Bath, we share the same approach and focus on teamwork as Bath Rugby, making sure that it’s a positive way of thinking for all aspects of school life, and not just limiting it to on the sports field.”

Part of this pledge included 4 pillars; PLAY, SUSTAIN, PERFROM & PROMOTE, within each of these pillars Royal High and Bath Rugby are committed to showcase to girls through this partnership that there are opportunities and future growth within rugby.
“Each week the girls have attended everyone session with high spirits and drive to learn and better themselves despite the cold weather. Through the partnership Royal High have not only had access to high quality coaching but we will also be welcoming the girls to one of our home fixtures at The Recreation Ground in the New Year.
This is an extremely exciting time for women and girls’ rugby at Bath and long may our relationship continue with Royal High.”
