‘Sister Act’ at Watermans Arts Centre

‘Sister Act’ at Watermans Arts Centre

23 March 2023

Sizzling with energy, comedy and musical aplomb, the St Augustine’s Priory production of ‘Sister Act’, the musical adaptation of the 1992 film of the same name, is being performed at the Watermans Arts Centre in Brentford for three nights, from 22nd – 24th March.

The story of this life-affirming musical tells how singer Deloris Van Cartier takes refuge in a convent after witnessing her gangster boyfriend murder one of his cronies. In the convent Deloris helps the nuns to find their singing voice, thereby saving the convent and discovering a purpose to her own life.

The cast of this production throw themselves into the show, performing with ensemble work to be envied, verve, enthusiasm and great humour. ‘Sister Act’ is the final show of the tenure of Headteacher, Mrs Sarah Raffray, before she departs to take up a new post in Bangkok. After ten years at this Catholic, Independent day school for girls, Mrs Raffray is handing over to new Headteacher and current Deputy Head Academic (Seniors), Mrs Christine Macallister. Mrs Macallister is a valuable part of this production of ‘Sister Act’, performing with great skill as part of the wonderful orchestra.

‘Sister Act’ is an incredible evening’s entertainment and cast and crew have thoroughly enjoyed working on it although, as St Augustine’s Priory is a former convent school, the sight of so many nuns singing and dancing is a little unnerving!

The first night audience of ‘Sister Act’ were enthusiastic in their appreciation, giving a standing ovation at the end of the show, and we know that the rest of the run will be just as successful.
