St Swithun’s students walk on fire in charity fundraiser

8 March 2023

35 brave students walked across hot coals, to raise money and awareness for these important charities. The Bramston Bursary Foundation supports girls from extremely disadvantaged backgrounds with fully funded boarding places at St Swithun’s, via a transformational bursary. Kids for Kids provides essential aid and support to the children of Darfur, Sudan, while Planned Parenthood offers reproductive healthcare and education to millions of people across the globe. HART (Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust) works to support oppressed and marginalized communities in conflict zones worldwide.

The fire walk was a truly inspiring event, demonstrating the Sixth Form’s commitment to making a positive difference in the world. The participants were cheered on by family, friends, and teachers, all of whom were proud of their bravery and determination.

Headmistress Jane Gandee said: “At St Swithun’s, we encourage our students to take risks and step out of their comfort zones, and I felt it was important to lead by example. The fire walk was a challenging and unforgettable experience but knowing that it was all in support of such worthy causes made it even more meaningful.”

The event was a tremendous success with over £2,250 raised for the four charities: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/stswithunsfirewalk

The Sixth Form’s fire walk is just one example of how St Swithun’s is committed to supporting charitable causes and making a positive impact on the world. The school provides its students with the tools and skills they need to make a real difference in the world, and events like these are a testament to that commitment.
