GSA Photography Competition 2023

GSA is delighted to announce a new photography competition to encourage girls to be bold and go beyond their perspective through visual creativity.

As the final part part of our ‘Go Bold’ student event series for this year, we’re launching an exciting photography competition which will have empathy at the core of the challenge! It’s why we’ve teamed up with award-winning schools programme Empathy Week who are film, photography and empathy experts to curate an exciting competition for the GSA network.

So spread the word and get everyone excited for this NEW creative competition!

Taking Part

THE THEME

“Now you know…”

An opportunity to show the world what you wish they knew about your life in just one photo.

Shift perspectives, challenge the status quo and develop empathy amongst viewers with your photo. Photos have huge power. This is an opportunity to use that power to open up someone else’s perspective to your world. Whether you want to display a more vulnerable side of yourself, champion a cause you care about or showcase your friendships in a new light, this competition is for you.

CAMERA EQUIPMENT

The best camera is the one you have access to.

People think that expensive cameras take great photos – this is not always true and our judges won’t be taking this into consideration.

Judges will be looking at your composition, creativity, storytelling and how you link your photo, title and caption to the theme.

TAKING PART

Get creative, think about the theme and snap your photo! Choose a title for your photo. The shorter the better usually!

Start your caption with – “Now you know…” and write a few sentences.

eg. 1 “Now you know I love to dance with my friends at Pride. It’s taught me to be proud of who I am and embrace being me. We all find our tribes!”

eg. 2 – “Now you know more about what it’s like to live with a disability”

eg. 3 – “Now you know I love to walk around the park. There are so many people to see, and I like to go there with my friends.”
