📚 It’s such a thrill to open a new book, and we were doubly excited to receive freshly printed copies of the new GSA ltd. edition anthology ‘Triumph like a Girl’ last month. ✨

Marking our 150th anniversary, it gathers together the voices of women, girls, and allies of girls’ schools and education through a wonderful range of letters from headteachers, pupils, and GSA alumnae. A selection of students' longlisted haiku and haibun poems also feature from this year’s Go Bold Writing Award. It’s a treasure trove of original and inspiring thoughts from our community and we’re proud to share it more widely with the world.

Huge thanks to award-winning writer Karen McCarthy Woolf for curating and editing it and to all those who put their pen to paper and fingers to keyboards to share their personal thoughts on girls' schools and girls' education.

Summer holidays are a perfect time for longer reads, and we’re pleased to share some extracts of the book’s contents with you over the summertime.

👀 Keep your eyes peeled.

🍷🏆 GSA's Woman of the Week 🏆🍷

Join us in raising a glass to round off the school year and the achievement of Emily Brighton, Lady Eleanor Holles alumna and the youngest female Master of Wine in the world!

Her passion for viniculture began (as for many of us!) at Bristol University, but she turned it into a career culminating in passing the challenging exams.

Emily says ‘Wine is the most endlessly fascinating subject, touching on art, history, geography and science. I don't think there's anything else like it, and the more you know, the more there is to discover. Blind tasting boils down to sensory logical reasoning under intense time pressure, which is joyous when you're getting things right, or conversely infuriating, but highly compelling either way!’

GSA proudly supports and champions women in all fields, and we applaud Emily's remarkable accomplishments in the wine industry! Cheers and congratulations Emily! 🥂

💪 We’re celebrating three incredible Women of the Week 💪

Huge congratulations to this year’s Go Bold Creative Writing Award winners, Ammaarah from @‌redmaidshigh Raffaella from @GandLSchool @‌GL, and Grace from @‌jagsschool

With hundreds of impressive entries, it was hard to choose, but these three wordsmiths stunned award winning writer and judge Karen McCarthy Woolf with their brilliant haiku and haibun (which are particularly challenging forms of Japanese poetry!).

‘Spring’, ‘Winter', and ‘September of the Tropics’ are elegant and beautiful pieces, we’re sure you'll agree when you listen back to the girls' readings. Just head over to our Reels section to hear them.👏👏👏 Or watch in Stories.

Well done girls! ✨

🏆Last but by no means least, our Senior winner for our Writing Award this year is the brilliant Ammaarah from @redmaidshigh with her impressive haibun 'September of the Tropics' in the 14 to 18 year old category.

It’s wonderful to hear her read from her own work, we’re sure you’ll agree. Well done Ammaraah! 🎉

I slept on the first morning and woke up

on the 27th day. Time flies seems like

an overused line. But how else could I describe

the passing of September?

The plants I tried to rear

are now vitamins on the

dried potted soil. Death is silent. Usually.

Autumn is a season I have yet to see for myself.

Yellow. Orange. Red. Leaves. If you have them,

please take photos for us, tropical girls

with turquoise beaches, hot sun, and cruel

typhoons. Our leaves here are now deep

green, old and dusted. Some days, monsoon

rains pour to wash the trees and our souls.

Yesterday on our

balcony, the night’s wind blew

a fallen feather.

Extra news hot off the press is that some girls in one of our schools enjoyed this writing event so much that they’ve started running haibun workshops for other pupils and staff off the back of their own writing!
