STEM Partnerships

The Girls’ Schools Association (GSA) works closely with the other independent schools associations: the four Heads’ associations (HMC, SoH, ISA and IAPS); the Bursars’ Association (ISBA); and the Association of Governing Bodies of Independent Schools (AGBIS); as well as the Boarding Schools Association (BSA) which has schools in both the state and independent sectors.  Together, these associations make up the Independent Schools Council (ISC) which collectively represents some 1,200 schools and over 500,000 pupils.

We also enjoys close working relations with the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) which operates across both the state and independent sectors; the Association of State Girls’ Schools (ASGS) and, in the US, the National Coalition of Girls’ Schools (NCGS) with whom we collaborate in the biennial Global Forum for Girls’ Education.

The GSA is committed to the powerful potential of education as an engine for social mobility. Accordingly, our schools work hard to forge partnerships with state schools and their local communities. Across the country, individual GSA schools are working collaboratively with state schools in a wide range of initiatives that make a positive contribution according to local need. These include sharing specialist teaching resources, joint careers programmes, sharing facilities, joint professional development, arts and science initiatives and more. Many of these are showcased on the Schools Together website.

Occasionally, the GSA teams up with like-minded organisations to form powerful partnerships that have the potential to involve all our members working together on the same initiative. We look for projects that will enhance the education of the students in our own schools and those in state sector schools too. Some of these whole-membership initiatives are highlighted below.
