Oxford University Careers confidence programme for schools & colleges

Ignite for Schools is a programme for secondary school PSHE lessons, which aims to instil greater self-knowledge, confidence and assertiveness in students and help them with their career planning.

It has been developed by The Careers Service at the University of Oxford, following research into career confidence in secondary school students. The Girls’ Schools Association is pleased to have been involved in the initial programme trials and to have helped fund the programme which is now available to state and independent schools.

Four modules are available:

  1. Understanding yourself
  2. Asserting yourself
  3. Networking & connecting
  4. Marketing yourself

Each module is available in versions adapted for Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. You can choose to teach entire modules, or pick and choose lessons individually.
Each lesson is offered in a 20, 30, 45 and 60 minute version, and is designed to be taught with ten minutes preparation. Teachers can project each lesson on a whiteboard, or deliver the lesson plan from their laptop.
