Headington Prep School

Headington Prep School, Oxford is a day school for girls age 3-11.

The school stands in its own beautiful four-acre secure and secluded site, complete with wooded playground area and wonderful outdoor surroundings. High academic standards and excellent specialist teaching sit alongside opportunities to experience a wealth of new activities and skills – always underpinned by outstanding individualised pastoral support. With fantastic on-site facilities including a Science Lab, ICT suite, Theatre, Art and Food & Nutrition Room, Library, Gym and Music rooms, the Prep School also benefits from everything the Senior School site has to offer, with girls able to use the Swimming Pool, all-weather pitches, sports field and Forest School area.

Girls are taught by specialists from day 1 and benefit from learning in small nurturing classes from enthusiastic teachers who have a real passion for their subjects along with in-depth knowledge and experience. From age three, girls have specialist teaching in Computing, French, Forest School, Sport and Music and as they progress through the school are introduced to specialists in Science, Art & Design, Technology, Drama and Dance. Outside the classroom, there are more than 60 activities to choose from, offering opportunities for girls to learn new sports and skills, develop their creative side or challenge their minds and bodies in new and exciting ways to enrich their educational experience.

Sport is popular and successful, with girls representing the School at a national level in Swimming and Hockey and competing to a high standard in Netball, Cross Country, Athletics and Cricket. More than 150 Music lessons take place each week in a wide range of instruments, including voice while there are regular ensembles, concerts and performance opportunities, including joining with the Senior School musicians for whole school concerts and events. Musicians can take ABRSM and Trinity Music exams in situ. Dancers also come together with the Senior School for whole school performances, most recently Headington’s inaugural ballet, the Nutcracker. In terms of Drama, regular plays are put on and significant numbers of girls take Speech & Drama exams up to Grade 6, with most girls achieving Distinctions.

With close links to the Senior School, Prep girls visit the site and get to know it well so moving on is a natural and seamless progression. Girls don’t need to sit an entrance exam and the vast majority choose to stay.
