Leweston School

Leweston is a leading independent school, providing outstanding education to both boarders and day pupils. As one of only a handful of diamond model schools in the country, Leweston educates pupils in both a combination of co-educational and single-sex classes.

Founded in 1891, Leweston is a Catholic school which welcomes pupils of all faiths and none. The school’s family focused ethos and strong community feel instills independence, confidence and a willingness to try. High standards are set both inside and outside the classroom, and the values of community, opportunity and respect are the bedrock of the school.

Leweston achieves some of the best results in the region as well as excellent university and higher education outcomes. In 2019 51% of GCSE results were grade 7 (or A) and above, well over twice the national average and the A Level students achieved the highest percentage of A* grades for three years.

In past five years Leweston’s leavers have gone onto 53 different university destinations, 56% of them Russell Group, however what is most important is to find the right pathway for each student to allow them to make their own impact on the world.

Leweston’s individualised, inclusive approach encourages every student to try the different opportunities open to them and the school has occupied a top 10 position for value-added for over a decade. Over 25% of GCSE grades in 2019 were one or more levels above the pupil’s personal target.

Set in 46 acres of beautiful parkland Leweston offers wrap around care to children from 4 to 18 years of age with a highly flexible boarding model and no Saturday school. The through-school, one campus option allows pupils of all ages to access a range of facilities often unavailable to individual year groups. This familiarity with the site, staff and routines allows for secure but gentle transition between the different educational stages, with teachers working together to ensure continuity of pastoral and academic support.

The school offers an extensive lunch-time, after-school and weekend activities programme as well as an integrated approach to creative arts including, music, drama, fine art, design and performance. Leweston is also one of only nine Pentathlon academies in the UK and a serious competitor on the regional and national equestrian circuit. It has an enviable record in both traditional team and individual sports.

Bursaries & Scholarships

Each year Leweston is proud to award scholarships which recognise and encourage pupils with talent, potential and who we believe will make a significant contribution to the life of the school.

Scholarships are available for Academic Excellence and in Art and Design, Equestrian, Music, Drama, Sport and Pentathlon at 11+, 13+ and Sixth Form.

Scholarships are not means tested and the awards given represent the honour rather than a significant monetary value. If you require financial assistance beyond the award you may also apply for a bursary.

A limited number of means tested bursaries are granted each year to allow pupils to attend who would not otherwise be able to do so.

All bursaries are subject to annual review and pupils must be registered with the school to make an application.

Bursary awards can take many forms but are typically worth between 10-20% of the current day fees, this can rise to as much as 40% in exceptional circumstances.
