St Mary’s Shaftesbury is one of the leading independent schools in the South West, for girls aged 9-18. Set in 55 acres of beautiful countryside, it is an inspiring educational environment, situated on the Wiltshire/Dorset border. Its unique ethos sets it apart, creating a happy and friendly community. Outstanding teachers and excellent pastoral care enable girls to achieve their ambitions in a relaxed but stimulating environment, preparing them to achieve Oxbridge and Russell Group university success.

At St Mary’s girls have the confidence to be themselves, explore the educational opportunities available, debate any topic and take part in all the extra-curricular activities on offer. Girls feel able to take risks, become resilient and independent, and at the same time enjoy life-long friendships and being part of a close knit community.

Girls also thrive outside the classroom and, with the wide-ranging activities on offer; they excel at sport, music, art and drama and enjoy participating in debating, photography, the Business Enterprise Scheme, Sports Leaders, Duke of Edinburgh Awards, Life Guards, charity expeditions and an extensive variety of other clubs and societies.

St Mary’s combines a supportive environment with excellent facilities. The award winning Art Department was recently built and is home to Fine Art, Photography, Textiles and Ceramics, creating an inspiring work space for the students. The project formed part of the ongoing development of the school which creates a modern, forward-thinking environment.

Instilling confidence in all and allowing the opportunity for girls to flourish and mature in a comfortable setting fosters individual success. Girls leave school as independent and confident individuals, knowing and believing they can make something of their lives, follow their career goals and be ambitious in their own personal futures.

Individual tuition is available for girls who require additional help with learning. Qualified specialist teachers provide support for pupils with specific learning difficulties as well as those whose general study skills require development.

Learning support is located in our new building Rookwood and offers a light and spacious learning environment, where girls have access to learning support resources and ICT.
