The Abbey is a vibrant and welcoming community of almost 1,070 girls aged 3-18 years. Academic excellence is achieved in an environment that is diverse, inclusive and energetic, while an exceptional extra-curricular programme enables girls to develop their interests and talents. Girls are encouraged to strive for their best both intellectually and personally, and achievement is celebrated in all its many and varied forms.

The Abbey is consistently one of the country’s top-performing schools academically. In 2018, 88% of GCSE pupils achieved A*- A and 9-7, and 98% gained A*- B and 9-6. Almost half of the students taking the International Baccalaureate scored 40 points or more, out of a maximum 45 points, with two girls achieving the full 45 points. The average of 39 points places the School amongst the top IB schools in the world. The world average in 2018 is 29 points. At A-level 92% of students achieved A*- B and 64% gained A*- A.

Outside the classroom extra-curricular opportunities play an important part in the school community, with Music, Drama, Art and Sport plus myriad interest clubs contributing to a happy, energetic atmosphere that is highly valued by our girls.

The curriculum is enriched by trips and expeditions that offer girls the chance to develop their independence and experience different cultures. From Year 3 girls enjoy their first overnight visit to an adventure centre and by the time they reach the Sixth Form they will be planning and taking part in an unsupported Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition, or trekking and volunteering on an overseas expedition.

At the heart of The Abbey community lies a shared enthusiasm for lifelong learning, underpinned by a relentless intellectual curiosity and spirit of discovery encouraged at every stage of the educational journey. Supported by a proactive and compassionate pastoral system, every girl from Nursey through to Sixth Form is encouraged to explore her passions, embrace new challenges and question her assumptions. The result is the development of free-thinking, confident young women equipped with the skills to build a meaningful future in today’s rapidly changing world.

Located within walking distance of Reading Station, the School provides an extensive coach network across Berkshire and Oxfordshire for both Junior School and Senior School girls. A range of scholarships are available, as well as financial assistance offered via means-tested bursaries.

The Abbey represents a unique and exciting opportunity for any girl with a desire to learn, where inspirational teaching and an ethos that promotes aspiration and balance provide the platform for a successful and fulfilling future.
