Trinity term has once again been a busy and exciting period for tennis, packed with a full schedule of fixtures ranging from friendly matches to highly competitive cup competitions. With strong participation across all age groups, it has been a term filled with enthusiasm, development and some impressive performances.
The U14 squad enjoyed a fantastic run in the School Sports Magazine Cup, advancing to Round four before facing a very talented Wycombe High side. The U16 team also performed creditably, progressing to Round three of the same competition and gaining valuable experience along the way.
In the Aberdare Cup, the U18 team delivered a convincing victory over Bloxham in the early rounds, showcasing strong teamwork and match play. They were ultimately knocked out by a very strong Wellington side, but the overall performance across the competition was highly commendable.
One of the highlights of the term was the Invitational Tournament at Wycombe Abbey. This event brought together U14, U16, and U18 players for an enjoyable yet competitive day of tennis. A special mention must go to Sophia (Year 7) and Cece (Year 6), who impressively stepped up to compete in the U14 category and went on to win the bonus final — a fantastic achievement against older opposition.
The LTA Youth Competition also provided an excellent platform for participation and development. With Division 1 and Division 2 fixtures against local schools, the format allowed a large number of students to experience competitive tennis. For several players, this marked their first time representing SHSK in a match setting.
Further success came at the Invitational Prep Competition hosted by St Hugh’s, where Junior players Mia, Beth, Rio, and Cece performed superbly to come away as winners. Their teamwork and composure under pressure were a real highlight.
The much-anticipated annual ISTA Tournament at Eton proved to be the highlight of the tennis calendar. Competing across four days, players took part in a pairs format in the U13 Ralph Cake Trophy, U15 Asbury Bailey Cup and the U19 Loveband Trophy.
As always, the standard of tennis on display was exceptional, with schools from across the country bringing some of the strongest junior players to the event. Matches were consistently competitive, providing a real test of skill, resilience, and teamwork. For our players, the tournament offered a fantastic opportunity to compete against some of the top tennis schools.
