It has been another outstanding year for Portsmouth High School students as they opened their A Level results this morning. The school had 100% pass rate with 79% of the grades A*-B.
‘It has been another exciting morning at Portsmouth High School with a wonderful set of results,’ said Headmistress Mrs Sarah Parker. ‘We are immensely proud of our students and all they have achieved. These excellent A Level results are a testament to their hard work, determination and ambition. They also reflect the unique strengths of an all-girls education, where young women are encouraged to be confident, intellectually curious and unafraid to pursue their aspirations. We congratulate every student on their success and wish them every happiness as they take their next steps.’
Head Girl, Emma, 18, was thrilled with her results which will take her to Exeter to read Law. ‘Lots of locking in and revision – particularly after mocks – has led to the results today,’ she said.
Erin, 18, who is going to Manchester to read Politics, Philosophy and Economics added, ‘I think this school has helped cultivate how I’ve learned to revise and how best to study. The school has given me so much support along the way.’
Jasmine, 18, is taking an exciting route for her next steps. ‘I’m going to Solent University to do an Apprenticeship Degree in Nautical Science. I’ve wanted to do this since I was about 15. I will be training to be Third Officer on board merchant navy ships and yesterday I went to my company’s [Conway Merchant Navy and Watermark’s] new simulator, training in navigation and steering and received my brand new uniform.’
Katie, 17, has overcome severe medical set backs to gain her place at Loughborough to read Marketing. ‘I’ve been diabetic since I was 9 years old and suffered liver disease since Year 10 which briefly impacted GCSEs. In December of this year I was diagnosed with a bowel disease which meant a lot of time out of school, especially in the run up to A Levels. I was hospitalised in March and missed a month of school, right before the exams, which wasn’t ideal. But, everything has worked out and I couldn’t have asked for much more today.’
Head of Sixth Form, Mrs Katie Wood, added:
‘These outstanding results are a tribute to the dedication and ambition of our students. As an all-girls sixth form, we are proud to offer a community where young women champion one another’s success, challenge themselves academically and develop the confidence to pursue their aspirations without limits. It has been a privilege to watch this year group grow into accomplished, compassionate and determined young women, and we look forward to seeing all they achieve next.’
Portsmouth High School’s next Open Morning is on Saturday 26 September from 10am – 12 noon.
