Headington School Oxford is celebrating a historic wave of national recognition, securing the #8 spot in Tatler’s prestigious guide to top UK private schools and earning a rare “Significant Strength” designation from the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) for its co-curricular programme. The School has also been named a finalist for Regional Independent School of the Year: South by Independent School Parent magazine.
Situated on an expansive 23-acre educational hub in Oxford, the School is being celebrated for its commitment to training pupils as true polymaths. Alongside studying nine GCSEs, pupils select accredited specialist qualifications such as the Headington School Award in Artificial Intelligence or Leiths Co-Curricular Cooking.
Academic outcomes remain exceptional, with 90 per cent of A-level entries graded A*–B, sending leavers to Oxbridge, top medical programmes (with a 100% interview and acceptance rate for pupils on our MedSoc programme) and leading global universities and apprenticeships.
The ISI inspection report officially designated Headington School’s co-curricular programme which runs from Reception to Year 13 as a “Significant Strength” – a top-tier regulatory endorsement reserved for extraordinary educational provision. With around 120 different activities and societies running every week across the 23-acre grounds, campus life is dynamic and varied. When pupils aren’t researching the ethics and applications of AI, training with the Combined Cadet Force (CCF), or mastering bicycle maintenance, they can be found pitching business models to Headington School ‘dragons’, leading Model United Nations debates, or taking to the river with the school’s record-breaking rowing squad. From hands-on dissection in the science labs and spy club challenges to producing natural pigments in the school’s unique dye garden, campus life offers endless avenues to lead, experiment and excel.
Creative horizons extend well beyond Oxford, with art students taking trips to Oxford’s world-class galleries and museums, as well as finding inspiration further afield in Berlin and New York. On the sports fields, Hockey, Cricket and Football continue to surge in popularity, while the School’s rowers hold a legendary record: the 1st VIII is the only team to have won the Prince Philip Challenge Trophy at the Henley Royal Regatta four times, breaking their own course record in 2026.
