Taking place outside in the Quad, we were lucky that the temperature had dropped a bit from the past week’s weather, though not enough to mean that the sun wasn’t shining brightly. It provided a lovely summer afternoon, despite the usual wind, which attempted to blow away everyone’s music multiple times.
Big Band kicked off the concert with a selection of favourite hits from the 60s to the current day, which got us off to an enthusiastic and lively start. Conducted by Mr McNaughton, they played four pieces in their opening set and later came back for a second set, closing the concert with three pieces – and then, by popular demand, an encore.
We also had the pleasure of listening to eight soloists, ranging from Year 8 to Upper Sixth, demonstrating a wide range of musical talent: through voice, saxophone, piano and trombone. As well as this, many other musical groups played and sang well-known and upbeat pieces, raising everyone’s spirits and demonstrating the School’s musical prowess.
Everyone in attendance, audience and performers alike, were treated to bowls of refreshing strawberries and cream, pretzels, cheese twists and Pimms (for the adults).
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon, and with the cheerful music, pleasant weather and lovely company, it was certainly a highlight for everyone!
