“Huge congratulations to every girl receiving her results today.
The Girls’ Schools Association knows that when you give girls classrooms where nothing is off-limits, they excel. Today’s excellent results, from across the country, are the continued proof of the power of a girls-first education. Girls have maintained their position as top performers at GCSE, with the percentage of entries awarded at grade 7 sitting at 25.7 percent for girls, and 20.6 percent for boys. It’s especially good to see gains in top grades in Maths and Physics for girls this year.
Behind every grade is a girl who has worked hard, believed in herself, and persisted, and that’s in spite of the world’s challenges that she’s set against every day; and standing behind those girls are the headteachers, teachers, and whole school communities that champion them.
I’m equally excited to see what girls will do next.
Whether they choose Maths or Music, Philosophy and Economics, Engineering or Digital Data – whatever the pathway or subject combinations, I’ve no doubt that they will have made them in a clear-eyed and confident way because in all of our schools the curriculum is designed to put girls at the centre, and every subject is theirs.”
