Manchester High School for Girls is celebrating another year of spectacular A-level results this morning.

A total of 92% of all grades were at the “gold standard” of A* to B with the average grade set being AAA.

MHSG has seen remarkable success across a broad range of subjects again this year. All pupils studying Fine Art, Graphics, Music and Religion and Philosophy attained 100% A* to A grades. Pupils also achieved 100% A* to B grades in Classical Civilisation, Drama, Economics, French, Geography, German, Politics and Physical Education.

All eight of Manchester High’s Oxbridge applicants secured their places this year, with courses ranging from Medicine to Middle Eastern Studies.

Kiyah-Louise Lopez, a bursary student, secured a phenomenal 3A*s and an A and is off to Cambridge to study Engineering.

She said: “I’m so shocked and so happy. MHSG has been instrumental throughout this entire process. I wouldn’t be where I am without my teachers and my friends. I’m so excited for the course and life in Cambridge.

“I’m most proud of myself for staying resilient and I’d say to anyone, don’t be afraid to go for opportunities. At Manchester High there’s a plethora. Try everything, chase rejection. That one ‘yes’ will propel you to where you want to be.”

Students are taking up places at prestigious Russell Group Universities, including King’s College London, Imperial, Edinburgh, St Andrews, Sheffield, Manchester and Bristol.

Multiple Manchester High students also secured places for highly sought-after Medicine and Dentistry courses.

Krishna and Sree, who’s daughter Disha has been at MHSG since Reception and achieved three A*s, said: “Being a Manchester High parent means everything. It is such an inclusive school where they take every child’s needs, circumstances and situations into account. They teach confidence, perseverance, resilience and they’ll do anything support every girl.

“We’d say to anyone thinking of sending their daughters to MHSG, don’t even think twice. We have no regrets, Disha is 100% a Manchester High girl and now she’s going to study Medicine at Queen Mary’s. She’s achieved her dream.”

Another student has taken up a highly competitive degree apprenticeship placement with consumer giant, Unilever.

The many and varied destinations MHSG students are going on to, with top grades achieved across the Creative Arts, Humanities and STEM subjects, demonstrate the students’ individuality, as well as the School’s holistic approach to education and its dedication to knowing and nurturing each student.

Bea Irwin is off to study Law at Nottingham, after securing an A* and 2 As.

She said: “I’m very happy and relieved and really excited. My teachers have spent hours going over past papers with me and supporting me. Everyone’s been congratulating each other this morning, that’s the most Manchester High girl thing. I’d say to anyone thinking of coming to MHSG, even if you’re reluctant, please give it a go, you never know where you might end up!”

Mrs Helen Jeys, Head Mistress, said: “I am immensely proud of the class of 2026. They are an inspirational group of young people who I know will go onto make positive changes in the world. Their results – across such a wide range of subjects – are testament to their passion for learning, broad interests and exceptional hard work. They have also been supported by the most wonderful staff who will be equally proud of the students’ achievements.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026 – you have worked incredibly hard, and your achievements shine as brightly as your futures.”
