It has been a wonderful morning of celebration at Norwich High School for Girls GDST Sixth Form as our students received an impressive collection of A Level results, marking the culmination of two years of dedication.
“These results are a testament to the incredible hard work our Class of 2026 students have demonstrated over the last two years, and we are very proud of each of them. There are many individual success stories, and it will be very exciting to follow their progress into higher education and the workplace. We continue to see students achieving their offers to study a breadth of degree courses, including in English, Geography, Psychology, Law, Languages, alongside Business, Architecture, and arts-based courses such as Costume Design.” – Ms Nicola Griffiths, Head at Norwich High School for Girls GDST.
Flourishing Across the Curriculum
This year’s achievements highlight extraordinary performance across a vast array of subjects, demonstrating both our rigorous academic environment and our commitment to nurturing individual passions. Our Creative Arts and Drama departments posted exceptional figures, with Fine Art securing 60% A* grades, 50% of Drama grades at A*–A, and a complete 100% A*–B sweep across Fine Art, Drama and Textiles (with Art and Textiles combined reaching 67% A*–A). Modern and classical languages also shone brightly, with French, German, Spanish, Russian and Latin all achieving 100% A*–B grades, led by a standout performance in Latin where 50% of entries earned an A* and 100% achieved A*–A. In STEM, Mathematics continued its strong tradition with 75% A*- B and 100% of Further Mathematics students earning an A grade, alongside impressive results in Chemistry (69% A*–B), Biology (59% A*–B), and Product Design (67% A*–A and 100% A*–B). Rounding off this academic strength, our Vocational Sports Science students demonstrated sustained excellence, with 100% of BTEC Sport candidates achieving a Distinction.
Case Studies
We are also proud to highlight some of the individual successes within this year’s results:
Francesca: Four A*s and a Place at the Royal Veterinary College
Congratulations to Francesca, who achieved an outstanding four A*s in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Latin. Having joined Norwich High in Year 7, Francesca will now take up her place at the Royal Veterinary College in London to study Veterinary Medicine.
Francesca particularly enjoyed Biology and her interest in animals extended beyond the classroom. In Year 12, she founded a Fish Club, sharing her enthusiasm for aquarium keeping while developing her research and public speaking skills. She was also a keen rower throughout Sixth Form, competing in events including the Women’s Eights Head of the River Race in London. A highlight of her time at Norwich High was a Latin trip to Italy, including a visit to Pompeii, which brought her studies to life. She leaves with fond memories of the supportive teachers and positive learning environment.
Isabella: From Music Scholar to Royal Marines Musician
Congratulations to Isabella, who achieved an A in Music, an A in History and a B in Classics. Having joined Norwich High in Year 7, Isabella is now embarking on an exciting career as a musician and flautist with His Majesty’s Royal Marines Band Service, alongside the opportunity to study for a Music degree through the University of Lincoln.
A music scholar since Year 7, Isabella has embraced countless opportunities to perform, lead and develop her skills. As Music Captain, she has been involved in school ensembles and performances, as well as composing her own music. One of her highlights was organising a charity concert in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital, bringing together more than 28 student performers and raising over £1,200. After successfully completing the Royal Marines selection process, including music auditions, physical and academic assessments, Isabella is now looking forward to meeting new people, travelling and combining her love of music with a career in the armed forces.
Jemima: Joining Norwich High in Sixth Form and Achieving Three A*s
Congratulations to Jemima, who achieved three A*s in History, Drama and Psychology, alongside an A in her Extended Project Qualification. Having joined Norwich High in Sixth Form, Jemima will now take up her place at Durham University to study Liberal Arts.
Jemima quickly became part of the Norwich High community after joining in Year 12 and made the most of opportunities to try new things. Drama became a particular highlight: despite having never studied the subject or performed in a musical before, she took on the role of Marius in the Senior School and Sixth Form production, Les Misérables and performed in Antigone. The experience sparked a new passion and she hopes to continue performing and join a drama club at university.
History was another favourite, with a memorable six-day trip to Washington, D.C. and New York providing the opportunity to explore the subject beyond the classroom. Looking ahead to Durham, Jemima is excited to study Liberal Arts and is considering a future working for a non-profit organisation, potentially in human rights. She leaves Norwich High particularly grateful for the friendships and confidence she has gained during her time at the school.
From Classics Scholar to Cambridge: Ivy’s Journey of Academic and Musical Achievement
Congratulations to Ivy, who achieved an outstanding A* in English Literature alongside As in Classics and Politics. Having joined Norwich High in Year 9, she will now take up her place at the University of Cambridge to study Classics.
Ivy’s passion for Classics developed during her GCSE studies and has continued to grow through wider reading and academic opportunities. She has explored the influence of the ancient world on modern society through her work as an academic scholar, including a talk on Euripides’ Medea and an article for the school magazine. Her commitment was also recognised through the GDST Pearson and Silver Award, which supported an intensive Latin course. Despite not studying Latin at A Level, Ivy completed a full GCSE in just two weeks at the JACT Latin Summer School, achieving an A!
Alongside her academic achievements, Ivy has been heavily involved in the musical life of Norwich High. A music scholar as well as an academic scholar, she plays bass, flute and piano, as well as singing and performing with the school’s ensembles. She is particularly excited about the intensive language courses at Cambridge and hopes to eventually use her interest in Classics as a pathway into local politics.
Becca: Changing Direction and Following Her Creativity
Congratulations to Becca, who achieved an outstanding A* in Art and an A* in Textiles, alongside a B in Drama. She will now take up her place at Falmouth University to study Costume Design, where she is looking forward to making the most of the university’s extensive arts facilities and costume collection.
Becca’s passion for costume and design has developed throughout her time at Norwich High, culminating in an A Level personal investigation inspired by The Nutcracker. She created a full-length tutu and complete Nutcracker costume, which she modelled at the school’s Fashion Show, where she also helped introduce the different sections of the event. Her studies have included visits to the Victoria and Albert Museum and an ethical clothing manufacturer, giving her opportunities to explore her interests beyond the classroom.
Becca’s Sixth Form journey also demonstrates the importance of being open to change. Having initially considered an engineering pathway, she realised that the sciences were not the right fit and, with the support of her teachers, changed direction towards Art. She is now looking forward to building a career in costume across musical theatre, television and film.
