St George’s School, Edinburgh

As Edinburgh’s only all-through independent school for girls aged 3-18, St George’s is a place of possibilities.

The courage of our founding mothers, who pioneered women’s education in Victorian Scotland, still echoes defiantly through our corridors. That’s why amplifying the voice of every girl remains part of our DNA today as a loyal school community with a unique spirit of pride. Everyone here is respected, appreciated and treated with genuine compassion – thanks to exceptional pastoral care which nurtures close-knit pupil-teacher relationships.

Situated in central Edinburgh on a spacious parkland campus, St George’s has a wide-ranging curriculum: a unique mix of GCSEs at 16 followed by Highers and Advanced Highers in S5 and S6. We tailor curriculums for individual needs, offering choice and flexibility across academic and co-curricular options; expertly guided by familiar teachers.

Our careful attention to each developmental stage from 3-18, means girls experience an abundance of opportunity, strong female role-models and leadership expertise all through the school, utterly free from stereotypes. We’re specialists in teaching girls, offer more STEAM choices, and boast an impressive 90% sports participation rate. It prepares our pupils to successfully navigate a competitive, technology-driven world.

Our boarders live in Houldsworth House, a friendly ‘home from home’, situated within the school grounds, for up to 50 girls aged 11-18, equally from the UK and overseas.

Over 90% of our girls achieve their first-choice post-school destination: leaving us as robust, empathetic change-makers, ready to take on the world…
