Queen Mary’s School Celebrates 100 Years of Empowering Girls with Exceptional GCSE Results
There was a true sense of celebration at Queen Mary’s School, North Yorkshire, as pupils received an exceptional set of GCSE results, marking the end of another highly successful academic year — and a particularly special one, as the school celebrates its 100th anniversary.
Ranked among the top 10 independent schools nationally (without a Sixth Form), Queen Mary’s continues its proud tradition of combining academic excellence with outstanding personal development, while happily empowering girls to thrive in every aspect of their education.
This year, over 33% of all grades awarded were 8 or 9, the highest possible. In total, 56% of pupils achieved grades 7 to 9, with many exceeding their individual progress targets — a testament to Queen Mary’s commitment to tailored support, value-added progress, and nurturing every girl’s potential.
Carole Cameron, Retiring Head of Queen Mary’s, commented:
“ We are incredibly proud of our pupils and our value-added score of +0.9. On average, pupils achieved almost a full grade higher than predicted. These results reflect not only their academic strengths, but also their perseverance, ambition, and the unique sense of community that defines Queen Mary’s. Every girl is known and valued here. As we celebrate 100 years of Queen Mary’s, it’s heartening to see our ethos of empowering girls as vibrant as ever.I would also like to thank our talented staff, whose dedication and expertise underpin everything we achieve.”
Fe Beadnell, Incoming Head of Queen Mary’s, added:
“It’s a privilege to be joining Queen Mary’s at such an exciting time. These results speak volumes about the strength of teaching, the support from families, and — most importantly — the resilience, ambition, and enthusiasm of our pupils. Queen Mary’s girls contribute so much to school life — combining academic achievement with leadership, adventure, and a wealth of extra-curricular activity. Today, we celebrate all of this and look ahead to continuing our tradition of encouraging every young person to aim high and thrive.”
