Wycombe Abbey Celebrates 120 years with ‘Colour Dash’ Fun Run
Leading girls’ boarding school Wycombe Abbey held a ‘Colour Dash’ Fun Run on Sunday 20th September to launch the celebrations of the school’s 120th anniversary.
Over seven hundred girls, parents, siblings and staff ran the 1.5km ‘Colour Dash’ around the grounds of the school. A competitive race of 3km also took place shortly beforehand.
Runners were dressed head to toe with wigs, tutus, leis and all manner of fancy dress before completing the route which passed through four colour stations where entrants were showered in colour dust.
The event signalled the official commencement of the school’s anniversary celebrations, marking 120 years of opportunity and achievement for women. Headmistress Rhiannon Wilkinson said, ‘The Colour Dash was a joyful occasion and brought the whole Wycombe community together. I’m not sure what our founder Dame Frances Dove would have made of it all but the Fun Run celebrated a long history of ground-breaking pioneers who followed in her footsteps. The festivities will continue this year with two Gala Balls and a whole school event at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre’.
