Over 400 Girls Congregate for Annual Schools Netball Tournament

Over 400 Year 8 and 9 girls from across the UK have taken part in the annual GSA-MasterClass Netball Tournament.

The tournament is open to all Girls’ Schools Association schools and takes place over the course of one weekend. It is organised by the GSA’s preferred sports tour partner, MasterClass Sports Tours.

The MasterClass weekend included special appearances from England Netball stars Pamela Cookey and Captain Sara Baymen who gave the girls tips and techniques to improve their play. England Netball won bronze medals at both the Commonwealth Games and the 2015 World Championships.

The competitors displayed an impressive level of skill throughout, with an extremely high standard in the finals which were widely supported by all the other competing schools. The award ceremony celebrated everyone’s success and improvement.

GSA’s sports committee chair, Jo Mackenzie, who is also head of Bedford Girls’ School, said:
“This event is one of the highlights of the sporting calendar for GSA pupils and this year was no exception. The girls had a brilliant time and were genuinely thrilled to be coached by the England players.”
