Bruton School for Girls continues to build its highly regarded academic record by revealing record breaking A Level results.
This year, all of the following measures were higher than, or equal to, previous years.
54% of all grades awarded were A*/A – the highest ever result by some considerable margin
23% of students achieved straight As
75% of all grades awarded were A*-B
92% of all grades awarded were A*-C
More than one quarter of girls (27%) gained three A Levels at AAB or higher in the tougher ‘facilitating’ subjects which universities favour such as sciences, maths and modern languages. In fact, every student taking English, Maths, French and Spanish all gained grades B or higher.
This excellent set of A Level results continues to build on the girls’ school’s reputation for achieving top academic results, even though it is an academically non-selective school.
Particularly outstanding results were achieved by:
Megan Wincott from Castle Cary, who joined the Sixth Form from Ansford School, gained three A*s in Biology, Chemistry and Maths and will be taking up a place to read Medicine at the University of Sheffield.
Ellie Rickards from Holton, who joined the school in the Nursery as part of Sunny Hill Prep, gained A* AA in English Literature, Biology and German and will read Modern Languages and English at the University of Birmingham.
Outgoing Head Girl, Alex Chadfield from Dartmouth, will read French and Russian at the University of Bristol after gaining A*A*B in History, English and French.
Eliza Robertson of Frome was awarded straight As in Geography, Biology and Philosophy & Ethics and will take up at place at the University of Exeter to read Geography.
Lara Taylor from Sherborne gained straight As in French, Spanish and Latin in addition to studying Music to Diploma level.
Headmistress, Nicky Botterill, was absolutely delighted with this year’s results:
“These fantastic results are only half the story! Not every girl can be an A* student but we are most proud of the fact that with the excellent teaching and outstanding pastoral and individual care here at Bruton, we have helped and supported girls achieve their absolute best.
“The successes for the Sciences, English, Maths and the Art departments demonstrate the breadth of our academic achievements but this is all underpinned by the exceptional individual care which truly sets us apart and ensures our girls are ready for life beyond A Levels. We wish them all well with their future studies and careers.”
