Farnborough Hill Head Alexandra Neil has expressed the highest praise for her students’ resilience and aptitude as they celebrated an outstanding set of A level results today (Thursday 18 August 2022).
Following two years of COVID-enforced Teacher Assessed Grades in lieu of traditional examinations, the School’s 2022 cohort was faced for the first time with the established format of public examinations. They more than rose to the challenge to earn places at leading UK universities studying subjects as diverse as Anthropology, Animation, Classical Studies, Economics, Law and Medicine.
Farnborough Hill students achieved the School’s highest percentage of A*-B grades (92.5%) to date across years where public examinations were taken, while 26.4% of students attained at least one A* grade. Almost 70% of girls achieved A*-A grades, and the average grade for the Year Group was A.
All students studying Economics, Geography, Music, Latin and RE achieved A*-A grades.
Stand-out students include Renee, who attained three straight A* grades to secure her place at Oxford reading English Language and Literature, and Mary, who earned three A* and an A to confirm her Natural Sciences degree course at Durham. Annabel, Kari, Lyla and Madeline all achieved two A* and an A while Hazel earned a notable Merit in her Level 3 Certificate in Food Science and Nutrition.
Over half of the cohort also completed the Extended Project Qualification, with results published earlier this year, and the Year Group has continued to embrace key roles both within school and in support of the wider community. Students have undertaken a wide range of projects including their participation in and management of a variety of events and also organised a wide range of charitable initiatives, particularly during their Charity Week, raising money for CAFOD, Rape Crisis and the Disasters Emergency Committee’s Ukraine Appeal.
Alexandra Neil commented: “This is an outstanding set of results by any measure, but even more so when you consider the challenging circumstances these students have faced, having experienced no formal GCSE examinations and COVID-related restrictions during their A level years.
“It is testament to the students’ aptitude and resilience, and the dedication and guidance of our teaching staff working in partnership with the girls’ families, that they can justifiably celebrate their achievements today. Whatever their next steps in life, I am confident that our wholehearted and ambitious students have many future accomplishments and successes to come and I look forward to hearing all about them.”
