St Mary’s School Gerrards Cross Bucks the Grade Trend

24 August 2023

Today, our whole school community is celebrating the fabulous set of results achieved by our Year 11 students. The way in which this year group approached their GCSEs from their revision and commitment to preparing for their GCSEs in the months leading up to examination season, to the calm and composed manner with which they entered and sat each and every paper, was exemplary. The results they are receiving today are a testament to their collective positive attitude, maturity and resilience.

With 15.8% of grades awarded at a grade 9, and 31% at grade 9-8, almost 70% of grades were at 6 and above, we are pleased to say that our students have done themselves proud. They have bucked the trend and results are higher than those achieved in 2018 and 2019 – an incredible achievement!

We are excited to be welcoming these girls into our Sixth Form to continue their educational journey at St Mary’s. During the next two years, they will gain further independence and confidence in their studies, as well as build invaluable working relationships with their teachers to allow them to continue to flourish and exceed their potential once again in two years’ time when they receive their A Level results.

In our purpose built Sixth Form Centre, Cedar House, these students will broaden their horizons with our exciting Sixth Form Enrichment Programme and many students will also opt to study the Extended Project Qualification alongside their A level subjects, adding further breadth to their curriculum in preparation for their careers at University and beyond.

Mrs Adams, Headmistress said,

“The resilience and perseverance shown by this GCSE cohort cannot be underestimated. Following the pandemic years, they have shown tremendous determination to do their very best and have come out with a fantastic set of GCSE results. I am looking forward to working with them in the Sixth Form as they further their knowledge and skills in their A level curriculum and as they work towards their future goals.

Congratulations also to their wonderful teachers and to all the families who have supported them along the way; it is a day to celebrate the successes of all our Year 11 students.”
