Thanks to their hard work and commitment, Woldingham’s Upper Sixth students are taking up places at leading UK and overseas universities after receiving good news on A Level results day. Students have chosen a diverse range of subjects from medicine to performing arts and psychology to modern foreign languages. Overall, 72% of grades awarded were A* to B, with a number of students achieving a full set of A*s.
Nicole Weatherston, Deputy Head (Academic) said: ‘Congratulations to all our students on their A Level results this year. What a super set of results. They are a wonderful group of young women who have achieved so much in all areas of school life. I am so proud of them.
I would like to pay tribute to colleagues across the school for supporting our Upper Sixth to achieve so much. Our Upper Sixth leave us as well-rounded individuals with the skills to be successful lifelong learners.’
Head Girl Léonie C has secured her lifelong ambition to study medicine as she takes up the offer of a place at the University of Newcastle. Deputy Head Girl Katy N leaves Woldingham to take a place at Magdalen College, Oxford to read Spanish and beginners Italian. A keen hockey player who has played at county level, Katy was this year’s 1st Team Players’ Player of the Year at Woldingham’s annual Sports Awards.
Rosie S, who played a leading role in this year’s Sixth Form production of ‘Sister Act the Musical’ and is a highly accomplished flautist, has a place at Durham to study modern foreign languages. Sports Ribbon (prefect) Maddie L has a place at Birmingham to study sports science and Music Ribbon Joyce W has a place for vocal studies at music conservatoire Trinity Laban in London.
Other popular UK universities for Woldingham students include Bristol, Exeter, UCL, Edinburgh and St Andrews.
A number of students are likely to be heading overseas to university including Alex S, who has a place at Dartmouth College, an Ivy League University, with a hockey scholarship. Other overseas destinations include Boston University, Parsons School of Design in New York and NYU.
Woldingham’s Interim Head, Julia Harrington who joined Woldingham this week, said:
‘It’s been wonderful to celebrate the achievements of our Upper Sixth at school today, meet them and hear more about their exciting plans for the future. While A Level success opens doors to places at world leading universities and exciting careers ahead where they will flourish, there is much more to a Woldingham education than excellent exam results. Our aim is for our students to ‘Write Your Own Story’ leaving as confident, compassionate and courageous young women ready to make a positive impact on their, and our, world and this is what our 2023 Upper Sixth leavers are doing. They leave with our very best wishes.’
Head Girl Léonie said:
‘I have loved my time at Woldingham from starting as an 11-year-old in Year 7 right through to the Upper Sixth. Thank you to everyone at school who has helped me, and all the others in my year group, to achieve so much. We are now ready for our next adventure.’
