Bedford Girls’ School (BGS) is proud to celebrate the success of Head of Netball, Josie Huckle, following Manchester Thunder’s thrilling 54-51 victory over London Pulse in the 2026 Netball Super League Grand Final.
Played in front of more than 8,000 fans at Co-op Live in Manchester, the final delivered a dramatic finish as Thunder clinched the club’s fifth Netball Super League title. Playing at Goal Keeper and Goal Defence, Josie has been a key part of Thunder’s success this season, bringing experience, leadership and a commanding presence on and off the court.
A five-time Netball Super League champion, Josie has also represented England at senior level, making her an inspiring role model for BGS students and a real example of what focus and perseverance can achieve. At BGS, students see Josie’s impact every day as she leads our netball programme, shares her experience with them and shows what’s possible through hard work and dedication. Her continued success at the highest level of the game reflects the strength of the sporting culture at BGS and the kind of values we want to give every student.
Josie said: “To win a fifth title is an achievement I am incredibly proud of, and I am one of only a few athletes in the Superleague to have done this. To do so in my 15th year in the Superleague, while also reaching my 200th appearance in the opening game of the season, makes 2026 a very special year. I am very lucky to work with such a supportive PE department who allow me to continue to thrive.”
Mrs Verity Mason-McLeod, Director of Sport at BGS, said: “We’re so proud of Josie and everything she’s done for Thunder and for netball at the highest level. It’s brilliant to have a Head of Netball who’s still out there competing at the top and winning titles like this. She’s a really strong role model for our students, showing them what focus, hard work and belief can lead to.”
