Bedford Girls’ School

Bedford Girls’ School is a vibrant independent day school for girls aged 7-18.

We place the pupils at the heart of all that we do and our expert understanding of girls and young women imbues us with the ability to ensure your daughter will reach her true potential – academically, socially, emotionally and ethically.

The world is rapidly changing and education needs to keep pace with these changes and continually evolve. Underpinned by the International Baccalaureate philosophy, we are a future inspired school; our role is to help your daughter develop the learner attributes and intellectual character that she will need to enter higher education and the working world with self-confidence.

An education at Bedford Girls’ School is rich in both academic and co-curricular choices. We believe they go hand in hand.

We achieve exceptional examinations results but these are no longer enough to guarantee success, your daughter will need to be able to communicate effectively, work independently, question and inquire, and develop creative solutions. Our educational model focuses on these wider skills, setting our pupils securely on the path where they are able to handle opportunities and challenges.

Our classrooms fizz with creativity, our corridors are full of laughter and sports pitches burst with energy.
Situated on the banks of the River Great Ouse in Bedford, we are equal distance from the M1 and A1, and easily accessible for girls coming from Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

In addition to our regular open mornings, we are always happy to welcome parents and girls to visit us for a tour of the School, so you can see for yourselves what makes our community special.

Bursaries & Scholarships

We offer bursaries in our Senior School for Years 7 to Upper Sixth. Our scheme is extremely transparent and we only offer means tested academic bursaries.

Families apply against a strict financial criteria; it is open to both potential or current students. All applicants are assessed against the financial criteria and then eligible applicants are invited into school to sit a bursary assessment. As a selective school we judge each eligible candidate only on their academic merit. We recognise that behind each candidate, there will be a very compelling story and all will be worthy candidates, but it is not our role to make judgement. Data from the assessments is shared with our Bursary Committee in an anonymised process and they decide who will be awarded a bursary.

Bursary applications are only considered during the main assessment period in January of each year. We are unable of offer bursary awards to late assessment candidates.

Our bursaries are highly competitive, with one in five candidates being awarded a bursary and most years we are able to offer 10 to 12 full bursaries. Once a candidate is awarded a bursary it will stay with them until they leave us at the end of the Upper Sixth.
