Kensington Prep Schoolupcoming open day (click for details)
Kensington Prep School in Fulham is regarded as one of the best prep schools in London and wins praise for its nurturing approach, rich curriculum and outstanding academic results. It was awarded the highest possible grade in the last inspection with the quality of pupils’ achievements and learning rated ‘exceptional’.
Kensington Prep is a ‘thinking school’ and encourages independence, individuality and courageous questioning thinkers. Girls move on to top day and boarding schools in London and the country.
The forward-thinking school was recently transformed with the building of ground-breaking facilities. These include a high-tech ‘Explore Floor’, multi-media studio, spacious classroom breakout spaces and an eco-greenhouse, which encourage independent learning and collaborative work, complementing classroom teaching. There are specialist rooms for music, ICT, science, art and drama and the school is located in an acre of grounds with a spacious playground with netball and tennis courts and a pond for environmental studies. Two new lifts mean the school is now fully wheelchair accessible throughout – which few schools can offer.
The curriculum is strongly academic but broadly based with generous time allocated to music, sport, art, ICT and drama. The schools offers an enormous range of clubs which girls can choose to join – from chess to cricket. As the Sunday Times observed, ‘Exam success is almost incidental – a by-product of everything else the school does – which is how it should be. The result is happy confident girls.’
Girls are helped to develop their individual abilities, their integrity and sense of community and respect and sensitivity towards others. They are confident to use the latest technology with iPads and the ICT suite used throughout the school. Sport, drama and music are also very strong at the school and there is a bi-annual overseas choir tour.
The main entry point is at four years with a small entry point at 7+, although occasional places do occur throughout the school from time to time.
Kensington Prep School was the first school to be opened by the Girls’ Day School Trust and 1873 and has been a pioneer of women’s education ever since.
