With a history dating back to 1634, we understand how valuable single-sex education can be in giving girls a great start in life.
Supportive, inspirational staff, a progressive mind-set, excellent pastoral care and wide ranging opportunities, mean we develop inspirational young women, who are fully equipped for whatever path they choose in life.
Girls can join our Junior School from Year 3. Here they will discover their strengths, address their weaknesses and become curious and active learners.
Our warm, nurturing pastoral care combined with the expectation of positive attitudes, determination and achievement, help us develop confident young girls who are not afraid of failure.
Similarly, in the Senior School we prioritise the development of the whole girl. We provide breadth and depth of knowledge and experience, fostering a love for learning and personal development, to help our girls become the leaders of tomorrow.
Our academic record is excellent, and we are totally committed to seeing each and every girl fulfil their academic potential. Small class sizes, experienced teaching staff and a strong school work ethic all ensure the girls here perform extremely well. Our extensive A Level curriculum offer is complemented by a wide-ranging Electives programme that prepares students for their next steps into further education, the world of work, or to embark on a meaningful gap year.
But we are so much more the sum of our exam results. The pastoral care here is outstanding. We have the experience and expertise that enables girls to thrive, and when they do face challenges we are right behind them, helping them through.
Opportunities extend far beyond the classroom with an extensive extra-curricular programme and first-class facilities that allow for excellence in sport, drama, art and music. We also broaden horizons with a range of academic and enriching overseas trips.
The fact is, when girls join us they become a part of something that stays with them for life. We take great pride in seeing our students go on to succeed in their chosen fields. But most importantly, we delight in seeing the accomplished, positive and happy young women, who keep in touch with us as alumnae.
All of this, and more, is what makes us one of the finest schools in the country.

The unique founding origins of our school mean we can offer a number of fully and partially-funded places.
Scholarships
Scholarships are available for students for any year of senior entry and to current students entering Years 10 and 12. Academic, Music and Sport Scholarships are available, with Art Scholarships also available for entry to Years 9 and above. For Academic awards, all girls sitting the entrance examinations will automatically be considered.
Sports Scholarships are awarded to students who show significant potential in one of the School’s main sports (hockey, netball or cricket). They are likely to already play at club and/or area level and have the potential to play at regional / national level. Music Scholarships offers tuition for up to two instruments in school. Art Scholarships are offered for students entering Year 9 or above. Scholarships do not routinely come with fee remission but this is sometimes offered to students performing at an exceptional level (eg national level for sport).
Bursaries
Means-tested bursaries are available to students requiring financial assistance to access a Redmaids’ High education. Financial need is assessed by GDST’s Financial Assistance Team. More information on applying for a bursary is available from the School’s Admissions Team.
Special awards
For those joining in Year 7, two 100% funded places are available. There is a third fully funded place available for a student entering Year 12.
In addition, Redmaids’ High offers a unique scheme to offer Development Grants of up to £250 to any student in Year 9 and again in Year 12 to support their personal development. For example, successful grant applicants have purchased sewing machines to work on textile projects at home, studied for German language certificates and attended sailing regattas.
