Gifted & Talented
St. Francis’ College recognises that there are often very different needs for gifted and talented pupils within different age brackets. Although the College caters for children of two up to young women of eighteen and older, it is an integrated whole and the care for the individual, the striving for excellence and the provision of the environment where personal and corporate best is valued by all are central to our philosophy. The academic, social and personal needs of the very able are recognised to be of real importance, as for any other level of individual need, and the following documents detail the ways in which we endeavour to meet those needs.
We endeavour to provide a caring, informed and secure environment in which each girl can thrive and strive to fulfil her potential to the utmost of her experience of life at this stage, academically, personally and in all areas of talent, in preparation for her future in the wider world.
It is, therefore, essential that all be catered for, across the spectrum of abilities, not least, the particularly able. This should be done not only academically but also pastorally through support for the individual where there is a perceived need.
St. Francis’ College recognises that each pupil is an individual and strives to nurture strengths and to identify and support any areas of concern, so that she can achieve her full potential. We ensure full entitlement and access for all pupils to high quality education within a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum. We also foster a positive attitude within the community to all girls with individual needs.
We have an Individual Needs Co-ordinator who has responsibility for identifying the needs and supporting pupils with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Pupils with a statement from the LEA will be included where the College can support their individual needs.
