Pupils at Sheffield Girls’ are celebrating an outstanding set of GCSE results today, with almost three quarters of all grades awarded at 9–7 and one third achieving the highest possible grade 9.
The school’s Year 11 cohort achieved 74% of grades at 9–7, 53% at 9–8 and an exceptional 33% at grade 9.
Across the year group, 17 pupils – one in five – achieved exclusively grades 9 and 8, while 38 pupils achieved all of their GCSEs at grades 9–7.
The results are significantly ahead of national figures, with 23.1% of GCSE grades nationally awarded at 9–7, 12.9% at 9–8 and 5.2% at grade 9 this year.
While celebrating the academic achievements of the cohort, Sheffield Girls’ is also recognising the hard work, perseverance and contribution to school life that sits behind the results.
Head Alex Wilson said:
“Of course we are immensely proud of these outstanding results, but what makes me proudest is the effort, determination and sheer enthusiasm for learning that sits behind them.
“This is a cohort that has worked incredibly hard, but they have also understood that a great education is about so much more than examinations. They have played sport, made music, performed, led, volunteered, laughed and formed friendships that I hope will last long beyond their school days.
“Results Day belongs to the whole community: to our pupils, their families and the teachers who have encouraged, challenged and supported them. Today we celebrate every one of our girls, not simply for the grades on a piece of paper, but for everything it has taken to get here.”
Among those celebrating is Stella, one of the school’s Eco Reps, who achieved all grades 8 and 9. Alongside her academic success, Stella has received the school’s Kindness Award at its annual end-of-year COTSY celebration every year since joining the Senior School.
Siloam, a talented violinist and Wellbeing Rep, achieved eight grade 9s and one grade 8, while Nethra, a committed netballer and trampolinist who has also served as Deputy Form Leader, achieved all grades 8 and 9.
There was double cause for celebration for Nousha and Cecilia, who have both attended Sheffield Girls’ since Reception and achieved straight grade 9s.
Both are dedicated members of the school’s Senior Orchestra, while Nousha has also represented Sheffield Girls’ in football and cricket.
Nousha said:
“I’m really relieved to get my results, I’m really happy with them. I’d like to say a huge thank you to all of the teachers for all of their support and help.”
For many of the pupils celebrating today, their Sheffield Girls’ journey is far from over, with a large proportion of the cohort returning in September to join the school’s Sixth Form.
Alex Wilson added:
“There is something particularly joyful about GCSE Results Day because we get to celebrate everything our girls have achieved while knowing that, for so many of them, we are not saying goodbye.
“We cannot wait to have them back. They are a warm, funny, talented and wonderfully supportive group of young women, and seeing them return as Sixth Formers, ready for the next stage of their journey together, will be a very special moment.
“For now, though, they should enjoy today. They have worked incredibly hard for it.”
The results follow Sheffield Girls’ outstanding A Level results last week, when 59% of grades were awarded at A*–A, 81% at A*–B and 93% at A*–C.
The school was also named Independent Secondary School of the Year in the North in The Sunday Times Parent Power 2026.
