We are delighted to announce that the Zaha Hadid Sixth Form has been awarded the 2025 Berkhamsted Citizens’ Environment Award. This recognises the building project completed in the 2025 calendar year which is considered to have contributed most to the enhancement of Berkhamsted or Northchurch village.
The Zaha Hadid beat out stiff competition from 9 other excellent local projects to win the coveted award. Amongst other valuable aspects, the building stood out for its sustainable design features, including low energy lighting, cross laminated timber to reduce carbon, air source heat pumps and a blue roof for optimising water storage. These sustainable features extend to outside the building, where local biodiversity is nurtured in the meadow quad and brise soleil reduces solar gain.
Richard Thompson, Assistant Vice Principal, commented, “We are delighted to receive this award, presented to the School by The Berkhamsted Citizens Association, and to recognise and celebrate the community relationships that have developed directly through the work of the Berkhamsted Society.”
We are proud to see how our new building has contributed to Berkhamsted’s built environment, while emulating sustainable best practices and enhancing the learning experience of our students.
