A love of books is celebrated at Queen’s

‘Choose an author as you would a friend’. So said Sir Christopher Wren, and we couldn’t agree more. Reading for pleasure is the ultimate escape and favourite books can be treasured as best friends throughout our lifetimes.

Girls from across the Lower and Senior Schools at The Queen’s School, Chester celebrated World Book Day by celebrating their favourite book characters, books and even learning a few tricks of the trade from published authors.

Senior School pupils combined heroes and villains character dress up and book sales with a crime-writing workshop with Mrs Tunnicliffe and Mrs Casson, a quiz and the launch of an historical literature competition

Lower School pupils were invited to bring their favourite book into school to share with their classmates. Each class also had the opportunity to vote for their favourite author and book and to participate in some fun book quizzes.

Infant pupils developed their very own questions for a special Infant Book Quiz which will take place tomorrow alongside a very exciting visitor in the form of Jonny Duddle, celebrated author and illustrator of the ‘Jolley-Rogers’ series of books.

The Lower School will also be holding a book exchange next week, whereby all girls will be able to exchange one of their own books for another title, with a fund raising element to the swap to raise funds for books for the OAKS school in Sierra Leone.
