St Mary’s Calne girls celebrate superb A Level results

The girls at St Mary’s Calne have achieved some excellent A Level results, with 64% of the entries graded A*-A, an impressive 21% graded A* and 43% of the girls being awarded all A*/As. In addition, all of the girls who held Oxbridge offers secured their places and almost 90% gained their first choice of university. There were strong performances across all subjects, particularly Further Maths (100% A*), Art (86% A*), Politics (57% A*), Latin (50% A*), History (29% A*) and Physics (25% A*).

Special mention must go to Vicky Shi who achieved 5 A*s and will be reading Physics and Philosophy at St Edmund Hall, Oxford and to 11+ Foundation Scholar*, Zara Collier Baggs, who was awarded 4 A*s and will be reading History and Economics at Worcester College, Oxford. Congratulations also to Georgina McLintock and Charmaine Li, who were both awarded 3 A*s.

Head Girl, Hannah Barber and her Deputies, Charka Stout and Sylvia Rutherford (pictured with Headmistress, Dr Kirk) achieved all A*/As to secure their places to read Classics at Worcester College Oxford (Hannah), History at Lady Margaret Hall Oxford (Charka) and History and Ancient History at Exeter (Sylvia). Many congratulations also to Oxbridge applicants, Frances Arnold, who will be reading History and Modern Languages at Trinity College, Cambridge, and Anna Hastie, who will be studying Classics at Oxford.

St Mary’s Calne girls will be going on to study at a range of leading Russell Group universities including: Oxford, Cambridge, Birmingham, Bristol, Durham, Exeter, Leeds, LSE, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, St Andrews and UCL. The girls will be studying a diverse range of subjects, ranging from Architecture, Biomedical Sciences, Classics, Economics, Geography and History to Medicine, Modern Languages, PPE and Zoology. Every year a few St Mary’s girls also choose to study abroad and this year Eliza Glover has been accepted to read Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation at the prestigious Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy, University of Southern California.

I wish our 2019 Leavers the very best as they move on to the next exciting stage of their education and lives.”
