This year’s GCSE results from Queen Mary’s School round off a year of success that has seen girls strive for excellence in every endeavour. Special congratulations to those girls who have attended Queen Mary’s for over 14 years, from the age of two, and to those who have received scholarships to prestigious sixth forms. All the Queen Mary’s girls have achieved so much in such an extraordinary year.
Amy Riordan, from Northallerton, was awarded eleven Grade 9s today to add to her other exceptional achievements including Grade 8 in three separate Speech and Drama examinations and Grade 5 Ballet and Violin. Heather Nuttall, also from Northallerton, was awarded eleven Grade 9s. As Academic Scholars, Amy and Heather are perceptive, focused and thoughtful with their work and engage in a host of school activities being part of a Battle of the Books team and winning UK Maths Trust Awards and supporting the Queen Mary’s Charity Fashion Show.
Jessie Walkland and Lizzie Duxbury have both attended Queen Mary’s School since nursery and alongside excellent results they have achieved great things including performing in ‘Dido & Aeneas’, achieving Grade 8 Singing and Clarinet and competing in Gymnastics at national level.
Thirsk twins, Holly and Rose Scott, received superb results. Extremely conscientious and determined, Holly was awarded her Sport colours three times as well as her Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Placed in the National Schools Equestrian Association finals, Rose, as Head Girl, is seen to be a true inspiration to the younger girls. Her amazing speech at Mary’s Virtual Speech Day will long be remembered.
Some of this year’s leavers have secured scholarships to attend prestigious sixth forms including Academic and Sport scholarships and destinations include Fettes College, Oakham School, Ripon Grammar School, Royal Grammar School, Newcastle and Shrewsbury School. Congratulations also go to the Queen Mary’s former pupils who are now moving onto Russell Group universities including Charlie Hancock who will be studying Human Sciences at The University of Oxford.

Queen Mary’s offers a broad curriculum, allowing pupils to pursue their interests within small classes designed to facilitate their ongoing development and achievement. The next Open Mornings will take place on Friday 2 – Saturday 3 October.
