Queen Anne’s School has been awarded the prestigious Microsoft Showcase School Award for the second year running.
This award acknowledges the extensive digital teaching and learning that has become integral to the school’s approach. The girls’ school, based in Caversham in Reading, became one of just 48 schools in the UK and 325 worldwide to be recognised by the international tech giants as leaders in digital learning.
Headmistress Julia Harrington praised the girls and staff for their work saying; “the school has to demonstrate digital excellence in four key areas; teaching and learning that is fit for purpose in the 21st Century, innovation, leadership and inclusion. Having been awarded this status for a second year running, we will continue to enhance the development of life-long skills including computational thinking, critical analysis and problem solving.”
As a ‘bring your device’ school Queen Anne’s has often led the way in its innovative approach to teaching teenagers. Gaining this Microsoft Showcase status follows the fantastic remote learning programme that Queen Anne’s delivered over the lockdown period, providing over 10,000 periods of academic and wellbeing classes throughout this time.
Assistant Head – E-Learning Thomas Lange is delighted with the digital journey at Queen Anne’s over the past year stating; “the willingness of the staff and students to constantly adapt and improve has driven the success of our digital innovation. This has been even more evident as we transition from a period of dedicated remote learning and we will continue to share our experiences with the wider community to improve teaching and learning with our digital skills and expertise.”
Queen Anne’s is proud to now have 20 teachers who have achieved Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert (MIEE) status, which is 5% of total MIEE’s nationally. In addition, they also have 42 staff at Microsoft Innovative Educator (MIE) level, with more in the pipeline.
